Being a receptionist is not an easy task, although many people like to think it is, they only answer the phone, they only sit on their ass\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 all day well I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll tell you this \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not for everyone because it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not as easy as we professionals make it look. I can handle all the eye rolling when I say that but there is one thing that I cannot stand as a receptionist. That is rudeness.<\/p>\n

Do you know how many people are rude and try to push their \u00e2\u20ac\u0153weight\u00e2\u20ac\u009d around thinking oh well it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just reception, I can treat them like shit as long as I get to the person I want to talk to.\u00c2\u00a0 I dislike being hung up on without a word only because the caller didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t like the answer I had for their question. I also dislike being yelled at for other peoples mistakes and lack of follow up. I understand frustration, I understand annoyance but you know what. Reception does NOT mean that we have to take the brunt of everyone else\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s shit just because they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re having a bad day.Oh and being rude on the phone is one thing but to be rude in person well that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s another thing entirely, albeit it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s less likely to happen, in my experience, but not out of the realm of possibility because I have had to deal with rudeness in person as well.<\/p>\n

On the other hand let them be rude\u00c2\u00a0 – we have our subtle ways of revenge (which I wont divulge here) but just let it be known that receptionist can handle whatever shit is flung at them. We are TOUGH.\u00c2\u00a0 Also being a guy and a receptionist at least I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have to deal with much of the blatant sexist or chauvinistic attitudes as my female comrades. I did get the occasional raised eyebrow in the beginning but since I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been at this position for over 6 years most of that has been eliminated, and people accept it for what it is. A job just like any other, so call me crazy because not only is it uncouth to be rude in general but you will also get further with a softer voice.<\/p>\n
