Handwriting is going the way of the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Hammer\u00e2\u20ac\u009d pants. Actually maybe not cuz those seem to be making a come back.<\/p>\n

Or should I say \u00e2\u20ac\u0153drop crotch pants\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. Whatever. Nel totally called<\/a> it too. I guess I will have to say it is going to way of the Palaeomastodon. When was the last time you saw one of those around?<\/p>\n

People today type\/text more than anything else, the most writing they usually do it to sign their name. And those signatures lack flair and grandeur. Even kids today seem to learn how to type before they learn how to write. There is no more worrying about getting the cursive right and there are no more notes being passed in class.<\/p>\n

The reason this has come up is I am sitting here hand writing this post. Why? Well because my supervisor has banned personal\/non-work related activities online at work cuz people weren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t paying enough attention to there jobs (which is totally untrue by the by). I guess she thought that would work. But I still have down time and I need something to fill it. So instead of just staring at a blank screen trying my best to stay awake I am just going to write.<\/p>\n

When I first did this for the last post it felt really weird. I couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t even remember the last time put pen to paper and wrote something substantial. The pen didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t really glide over the paper but jerked around as my hand tried to remember the correct movements.<\/p>\n

I know I have a habit of not writing things on purpose. And it is not just because I am an atrocious speller but also because who wants to look at this?<\/p>\n

No one. Half the time I can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t even read my own writing. I have to ask others \u00e2\u20ac\u0153what does this say?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Is that a q or an r?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

My mother insists that when I was younger I had been much better. I think I have always had awful writing but this could just be me being self deprecating. When I do try to write neater it takes a lot of effort for me to go from \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<\/p>\n

I have to slow down and really concentrate. It is an ordeal. That is kinda sad when this should be as easy as breathing.<\/p>\n

The last time I wrote anything was a few month ago, I wrote a letter to a friend of mine. She loves to write letters and I have to say I enjoy receiving them. I like getting her emails too but there is just something about a handwritten letter. It just feels more personal and yours. And the fact she puts a bunch of confetti stars in the envelope makes it a bit more entertaining. I can tell she just sits and writes, I have seen her do it. Her writing is fluid and loopy and well maintained. When I wrote back to her I had to type out first, then wrote out a practice copy, and then I wrote the copy I actually sent to her. It took forever but it was totally worth it.<\/p>\n

With the continued decline in the handwritten format maybe we will become like Star Trek; all handheld devices, button pressing, and dictations to no one in particular. At least we will have better sound effects than the scratching of parchment. Actually we are more than half way there.<\/p>\n

I hope handwriting doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t disappear, it truly is and art. Now that I am being forced to write things out I hope my penmanship will improve. It may be like riding a bike; you never forget how but you become a bit wobbly at the start.<\/p>\n
