I almost couldn’t believe it even though I prayed so hard for that to be the case. But I have become so accustomed to be disappointed in these hyped awesome looking films that it is just expected. And when you are finally presented with something that at lease resembles effort it is such a relief.

Note, however, that I said the movie was “good”. I didn’t used words like amazing, fantastic, or wicked because it isn’t. There are parts in the movie that are these things but as a whole it unfortunately didn’t reach that elite status. At lease good is better that some of the words I have used to describe some of the more recent films I have reviewed. Words like lack luster, boring, or bland will be pleasantly absent in the review.

A horrible disease has struck the world. It spreads fast, it’s vicious, and turns people into zombies. In just 2 short months it has turned the US into a blood soaked wasteland. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) a self proclaimed shut-in has manages to survive. He has developed rules to follow to ensure he continues to live. He is taking a trek across the country to find his family when he meets Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), a wild, uninhibited guy who really likes killing zombies and the con artist sisters Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin). They stick together and become his make shift family.

Zombieland is gross, funny, bloody, and all around entertaining. From the beginning it is cheeky it draws you in, makes you laugh, and gives you a bit of a jump. The whole opening sequence of the movie is fantastic. It gives you tips at how to survive a zombie infested world. Like #1: Cardio (I would be the first one dead then) or #4 (I think) Double tap. It is true the people who get killed are ones who never ensure that their pursuer is dead. They poke instead of shooting again. And this is not just for zombies but serial killers, monsters, and crazed animals.

The character introductions are done well also. They are quick, direct, followed by a flashback to where they each came from and how they got there. The transitions between the present and the past are great. It isn’t too abrupt or too subtle. It shows like someone just telling a story with a side note. The parts are well assembled.

But the problem with Zombieland comes about halfway through. There is the awesome opening sequence, followed by a great character intros and back ground, but then it seemed like the writers didn’t know what to do with these people. They had them kind of just wondering around. In real life I guess that is what would happen but on film it just slows everything down. But then they re-energized the movie with an awesome cameo. But I won’t spoil that for you if you haven’t seen it. But I was surprised and loved it. And then it kinda slows down again until the end.

It is a good thing that with Zombieland the fast paced hilarious bits out weight the slow meandering parts. Cuz if this wasn’t cut right it could have ruined it. But other than that I can’t really think of anything too bad in the movie. Even if there are discrepancies you will be having too much fun watching for them to bother you.

I definitely recommend Zombieland. It is just a good time. But if you have coulrophobia you may have a problem with one part. Cuz when this dude…

…pops up it is freaky, even for non-coulrophobics.

Tra

I know this is late.
