Yes it is nice to not have to get up every morning, rush around, fight traffic, and follow orders but damn is it boring. It also sucks being broke. I have all this time to do stuff and no money to do that stuff with. I am just kinda around.

Now my friends have lost all sympathy for me on the subject and that is fine I guess but it is not my fault that people aren’t hiring right now. There are jobs available in highly specialized fields that I know nothing about. I have been applying to things that I believe I am qualified for and even a bit higher just to give myself a challenge and to widen the number of jobs I can apply for. But it has all been to no avail so far. I have had very few responses and it sucks. At least I know it is not just me having these problems. I know a few people who are having the same issue.

This has put me in a bit of a funk. My body has become lazy for lack of stimulus and even though I am trying to keep my brain active the lack of interaction with the outside world is having a negative effect. I don’t know how hermits and shut-ins do it. Don’t they get bored? People go for years without leaving their homes and they don’t complain. Not me though. I crave the new, the interesting, it makes the wheels spin in my mind and makes me more creative.

I need to put myself in a better mood. This downward spiral just is not going to do. I need some kind of inexpensive stimulus that would heighten my spirits. I decided to watch some kid’s movies.

I know this may seem like an incredibly childish endeavour but kid’s movies are made specifically for that purpose. They are made to instil positive thoughts and raise the self-esteem of the young. But in today’s movies the film makers have taken into account that adults have to watch these movies too. They no longer make movies that are so basic and inane that your brain melts. The movies are high quality and entertaining for both the adult and child.

First I was surprised at how many kid’s movies I own. I dug through my DVD collection and came up with 21. Well 3 of those were the seasons of “Samurai Jack”. That is am utterly exceptional cartoon. The art, the storyline, the characters are just amazing. I know it was made for kids but I think it is definitely a program to be studied by artists and animation students. Every time I look at it my mind if blown. And 2 discs are of the “Raggedy Ann and Andy” TV show. I have to say that did not age well at all but I still have a soft spot for it.

I have only watched 3 movies so far. First was Curious George. That movie is so cute it makes me want to puke. I can’t help but watch this movie with a smile on my face. It is a mix between the characters and the music in the film. The Jack Johnson sound track suited the movie perfectly. Its upbeat mellowness was ideal. It has an uplifting effect while being relaxing.

The voice actors were also awesome. Will Farrell as Ted, aka “the man in the yellow hat”, was great. His voice is fun and goofy just like the character. Then there is Dick Van Dyke who fit the voice of the old, formerly worldly, explorer Mr Bloomsberry. His son, Junior, is voiced by David Cross. His voice was ideal for the money hungry, whining, attention starved character. And there is also Drew Barrymore and Eugene Levy.

After that I watched my absolute favourite Disney movie, Aladdin. Even though the song “A whole new world” makes me almost cringe every time I hear it, the pain is totally worth it. Right from the start the movie is an adventure. I can’t tell you how many times I have watched this movie but I can act and sing right along with the movie. It is just so uplifting, energizing, and entertaining from beginning to end.

The films voice actors are mostly unknowns except for Robin Williams who voices the Genie. It is his best movie ever. His wacky antics fit the spastic cartoon character. It allows him to do all his crazy voices, noises, yell as much as he likes without being annoying. All the voices in the movie are exceptional.

And the songs. Oh the songs. “Arabian Nights”, “One Jump Ahead”, “Friend Like Me”, and my favourite “Prince Ali”. Hey, hey! It’s Prince Ali. Make way! For Prince Ali! Those are some seriously catch tunes.

The last movie I watched not one, but twice, I might even make it thrice. The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. Ahhh. That movie is so ridiculously entertaining it should be illegal. Even though ScarJo threatened to ruin it with her terrible voice acting the movie came out unscathed. It is simply because the characters are entertaining, the story is so outlandish, and they didn’t use her character very much.

But ScarJo wasn’t the only celebrity to grace the movie. There was also Jeffery Tambor as King Neptune, Alec Baldwin as Dennis, and David Hasselhoff as himself (apparently he is a boat and has great control over his pectorals).

The movie was just like the show except with a little extra. The Spongebob world was broadened past the boarders of Bikini Bottom to the far reaches of the ocean and some land, a couple of new characters were thrown in, and all the regular favourites made an appearance. There is even some drama that will bring a tear to your eye or at least the eye of a pirate or two.

And the “Goofy Goober” song from the end of the movie has been stuck in my head. But it is not driving me crazy, it is inducing giggle fits and glee (should I be admitting that?) and random outburst of, I’M A GOOFY GOOBER! ROCK! That is confusing my friends. Plankton is right, Spongebob’s chops are too righteous. And I don’t think many people can handle that level of rock and roll.

Well so far the kid’s movies are doing their job. But I got a bunch more to go through. I gotta do the Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, The Muppets Take Manhattan, and more.

Just remember…

WE’RE ALL GOOFY GOOBERS!

Tra

I have been home for a few months now and the novelty of not working wore off a long time ago.
