What an interesting name, “Twatt”.

As I write this I am not in a good mood. No I am not going to tell you why because I am sick of talking about it. And it is stupid but it has had me pissed almost all day. I don’t know why people have to ruin people’s good moods and creative spirits. But currently I have 2 people trying their best to get me out of the funk. One is on Google Talk far far away and the other is on the phone (I am using my hands free. It is not just for driving and yes I am that lazy.). They are helping me keep my mind off the “issue” but the funk doesn’t seem to want to go away. It is like skunk spray but I got no tomato juice.

Anyways, the only reason why I mention this and am not trying to just go with my usual fun intro to these reviews is because the movie I saw on Friday probably would have helped me a lot right now. Even though it wasn’t the greatest and I had to wade through a crazy crowd fighting (literally) to see the ass-drops of a movie 2012 for some reason it was fun, light, and “feel good” and would have help shoo the clouds away and brought some sunshine into my day by now. It was filled with fun characters, great dialogue, and awesome music. I saw Pirate Radio aka The Boat That Rocked.

The movie was a period piece. It took place in the 60’s at which time, in England, rock and roll seemed to have been outlawed but not officially. There was a ship in the North Sea “Radio Rock” that had a band of rogue of DJs aboard that broadcasted rock and roll 24 hours a day. Even though what they were doing was technically legal the British government insisted on trying to get rid of them.

I like this movie even though what I am about to say is to the contrary. As a movie it is bad. There is very little sense of time line and there are wholes in the story and some characters just aren’t used. The construction of it is horrible. It goes something happens, musical interlude, something funny happens, musical interlude and repeat. It is a badly put together film.

But after saying that Pirate Radio is a lot of fun. With a cast that includes Bill Nighy, Nick Frost, Chris O’Dowd, Katherine Parkinson, Rhys Darby, Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson and Philip Seymour Hoffman there has got to be something good. There are some really hilarious moments in here, with some sugar, and even some cheese. The characters are interesting and entertaining. You mix that in with some awesome music, The Beatles, Hendrix, The Kinks, Jeff Beck, Smokey Robinson, Otis Redding, and you can’t help but have a good time.

On a side note, at the end of the movie during the credits they show album covers. With a movie about rock and roll that has all this good music you would think they would choose what they show carefully even though most people wouldn’t bother with it. But what grabbed me is that one of the first album covers they show is for Taylor Swift’s. I mean, really? Taylor Swift? Come on. And it was between like Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones or something. And then I kept watching and the Black Eyed Pease were up there and a few more that I can’t remember right now and I just had to leave.

Anyways, I recommend Pirate Radio. The movie isn’t an Oscar contender but if you want to sit back and watch something that is just fun and can sing along to then have a look.
