Last night I didn’t change the channel fast enough and ended up watching an episode of “Gleeâ€. It was the third episode I have watched and the most enjoyable. But I don’t think it has anything to do with the story or acting but it comes down to the music that was chosen for the show.
I don’t like “Gleeâ€. It is lame and annoying. They show all the exaggerated facial expressions that a stage actor would have but close up, making all the characters fake and excessive. It often frustrates me that friends of mine insist it is a show I would/should love. It really isn’t well told and forces storylines just so it can interject specific songs into the program.
I did manage to watch the whole episode last night simply because they featured the music of Madonna. I am sort of a closeted fan of hers and couldn’t help but be interested in the songs that they would use. From the moment the diary opened and her name was on the first page I slowed my reach for the remote. The started by playing her actual songs but the cast started to put their two cents in. I was ready to change the channel at that point but I had already invested too much time into the program plus there wasn’t anything else showing.
The show featured songs from throughout Madge’s career including Express Yourself, a Borderline/Open your heart montage, Like a Virgin, and a surprisingly awesome remake of the Vogue video featuring Jane Lynch.
I think that was the best song by the cast not just because they did the video immaculately but because they didn’t add any stylization or unnecessary vocal acrobatics.
From the attention “Glee†has received it seems it will be on for a while at least but even though the episode was good I don’t think I will be watching any more episodes. Even at its (so called) best it has failed to win me over. A gleek I am not but I promise not to make too much fun of you if you are.
