WTF?

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li

I don’t know how a studio, directors, actors, and writers can come together to create a blatantly obvious piece of crap and release it to the public. This movie is bad. From the opening credits as in the effects in the credits are bad, to the closing credits where there is this horrible rap playing (It is even worse that the “Ninja Rap”). The movie is just garbage and I can’t believe I wasted my money on it.

This is the last time my friend will talk me into seeing something I don’t want to.  I wanted to go see Coroline which I am totally pissed that I haven’t gotten around to seeing, but no I spend my hard earned money on this piece of refuse. The thing is I knew it was going to be bad. I told my friend it was going to be bad. But he still wanted to see it and I didn’t stand up for what I wanted.

I expected the movie to be cheesy. Like the first Mortal Kombat kind of cheesy. It was lame but you laughed at it and was entertained. But there was no cheese in this movie. It is like they tried to ham it up but they completely missed the mark. The horrible voice over was simply irritating, unnecessary and it was put there simply because the film makers couldn’t figure out how to properly move the story forward. There was a ridiculous amount of over acting by the movie’s “stars”, Kristen Kreuk, Neal McDonough, Michael Clarke Duncan, Moon Bloodgood (awesome name) and the insufferable Chris Klein. They even gave Chris the Tom Hanks hair from The DaVinci Code to make him just a little more annoying. There is also Robin Shou who you know much better as Liu Kang from the Mortal Kombat movies. And there is no relief from this because the fight sequences were lame, clumsy and badly choreographed. It is really sad when a movie about fighting has bad fight scenes. It is like if Fast and Furious was filled with Geos and Neons and raced didn’t go above 80kph. It is just pathetic.

As the movie was coming to a close the funniest thing happened. No it wasn’t in the movie it was from another film goer. He got up and loudly complained about the crappiness of the movie. His rant was filled with expletives and that he “just wanted to see Ryu fight.” And I am sorry to say there is no Ryu in this movie but he is mentioned in the end. And with his mention the movie is left open for a sequel. I really hope they don’t. God should strike these people down for just thinking about it.

In conclusion don’t see this movie. It isn’t worth the time or money. I can’t even believe I put effort into writing a review for this nonsense. But, if you are an insomniac it may do you some good. In the 1h and 36min long movie my friend fell asleep about 5 times. I kept nudging him awake because if I had to suffer through it he would have to as well.

[…] Now when the action stopped the, I loosely use the word, acting begins. You could tell no one there was trying that hard cuz they knew they were just filler. No one goes to see a movie like Ninja Assassin for the plot and acting. Now I wouldn’t complain if they did manage to make a well rounded film but with this they didn’t. The dialogue was stupid, the plot had lots of holes, and the acting was just bad. You could tell the writers did try to develop a thoughtful plot by giving the main character a background and “depth” but they didn’t succeed. They did lame things like throw in a montage of Rain working out all sexy ninja like. One good thing is that it was no where near as bad as Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. […]
