X-Men Origins: Wolverine
The release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine this past weekend officially kicked off the summer blockbuster season. And I don’t know what to say about it. I can’t say I liked it, I can’t say I hated it, I just don’t care. This is a bad sign.
I actually didn’t go to the theatre; I watched the pirated unfinished version at home all because my friend watched it and then took all the wind out of my sails. He told me it was lame and just ‘meh’ but didn’t really tell me anything about it. I kept from watching it until Sunday when I just couldn’t take it anymore.
I was expecting worse I have to say, complete garbage from beginning to end. No all the garbage was piled up into a huge mound at the end of the film. Up until then it was simply mediocre. My friend was right it was meh.
The biggest disappointment was DeadPool. DeadPool is one of my favourite characters in the Marvel universe and Ryan Reynolds is a pretty funny guy but together they just don’t work. First off whoever Reynolds was playing wasn’t DeadPool. I don’t know who that was supposed to be. It was some mildly amusing, buff dude, with swords. And then he was in the movie for about 10 minutes. Whatever.
Most of the movie was a lot of nothing happening. The dialogue was flat, the action sequences weren’t ‘cool’ and why was Will I Am in this movie? There were appearances from characters like Cyclops, Emma Frost, The Blob, Agent Zero, and Gambit, which was just a big waste of time.
I have yet to mention Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth because there isn’t much to say. They played their characters as best as they could with what was given. I won’t fault them for that. Schreiber’s Sabertooth was as menacing as he could be and Jackman’s Wolverine was as he always was. But they did seem a little bit bored.
I won’t even bother to get into that dangle-berry of an ending. It was so convoluted and stupid that it isn’t even worth discussing. And I say this not as a geek who knows a lot about what this story should have been but a movie watcher in general. It was just a slap in the face to the audience.
I know what I saw wasn’t complete, there were some graphics missing and apparently the ending is a bit different, but I don’t think that would make much of a difference in my opinion. The thing is after all of that I still want to see the finished product.
I do hope this isn’t what I have to look forward to for the rest of blockbuster season. All I ask is for one really good one.

why oh why oh why? This movie puts the first 2 X-men movies to shame actually. Deadpool’s end sequence with the head cut off and all – worst graphics ever – My eyes will never forgive me for this tripe.
