Nice to See You

Ok. So I was supposed to take a short break, like a week or something, but that break turned into a hiatus and that hiatus turned into a sabbatical. It just kinda kept rolling and rolling into a longer period of time away from the site. I was also busy doing stuff. In the last 2 months I have done quite a bit.

My aunt came from New York to visit. She has been to Toronto a bunch of times but we’ve never really done the whole tourist thing. Yeah we took her to Niagara and walked around Eaton Centre but that was the most of it. This time around we did do a lot of walking around the city. We went to the Distillery, Yorkville, Queen West, and we even went to Casa Loma. I haven’t been there since high school. I forgot how beautiful that place is.

I also went on a photography expedition to The Cheltenham Badlands. It sounds a whole lot cooler than it actually is. Cory wanted to go somewhere to take some pictures. He did a bit of looking online and found this place. Neither of us had ever heard of it but it just sounded cool. So he got me up at some god awful hour on a Saturday morning to head to the middle of nowhere to find the Badlands.

I have to say pictures make it look a whole lot bigger than it actually is. It is interesting when you first lay your eyes upon the rolling hills of red clay because it is in stark contrast to the lush greens that surround it but I found it disappointing overall. Even though it was different it wasn’t particularly inspiring. We were still there for an hour or so exploring the area and had ourselves a fun little adventure.

My jewellery has also gotten a boost in the last little while. A stylist saw my pieces at Made You Look and used them in a presentation of the new RootsxDouglas Coupland line at Idea City 2010. I had to make a bunch of pieces in many different colours for it. So my hands were working furiously. Because of this I was invited to the launch party of the pop-up store in Toronto. It was awesome. I got to meet Douglas Coupland, he’s a really nice guy, the owners of Roots, Aion Clarke, and I stood close to Drake. I even managed to get myself on tv for a few seconds. It was a whole lot of fun.

Since then I have been working on a new line of jewellery. I need a new look so I have been trying new materials and techniques. I find I have been doing a lot of the same thing for the last little while and I wanted to do something else. It is just that my “Into Battle” series has been selling really well but all the other stuff seems to be ignored. But I will see how this new line goes.

My birthday also came and went. I am aging and may have to start acting like an adult soon. I threw a party (sorry if you weren’t invited). It is rare that I get a majority of my friends in one place but it totally worked out. Except for like 2 people everyone managed to show up. It was great eating, drinking, and talking. It is so hard these days just to get people in one place with all our hectic schedules.

In setting up the Facebook invitation I found this great little comic that made me laugh and laugh.

It is morbid but is greatly contrast by the cheeriness of the image. I find it hilarious. It is from an online comic strip by Natalie Dee. I find her stuff very hit and miss but the hits are awesome.

And then, of course, I have been going to the movies. Well actually there was a whole month in there where I didn’t hit a theatre and I thought I was going to crack. Things just kept getting in the way. I did see Get Him to the Greek and Sex and the City 2 but I totally missed The A-Team which makes me sad cuz I heard it was good. And all the other movies in there like Knight and Day, The Karate Kid, and Toy Story 3 I wasn’t totally keen on seeing anyways. I did get to see Predetors which was somewhat disappointing; Inception which was hella awesome (I will write a review for that one); and the mediocre but not so bad The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. There were also a couple of non-mainstream, not-so-big budget flicks that were great. There was Gentlemen Broncos and that movie was weird but totally mind blowing. Then there was the French movie OSS 117: Lost in Rio. It is hilarious. I will have reviews for those in the next little while.

So that is what I have been up to in the last little while. I will try to keep up with the site. Hopefully interesting things will keep happening to me that I can share. Or I at least keep watching movies.
